Lock Bumping Solution for WNY Homeowners

In 2007 when the was running across the air ways, a product that prevents this had already been developed. It was developed in order to stop the actual key from unlocking a deadbolt; thus preventing the ex-boyfriend, maintenance person, landlord or anyone trying to gain unauthorized entry into someone’s home would be stopped in their tracks! Now, you may be asking yourself what will be the next news story, where will it occur or will this ever happen to me!? Well now the public is learning about a great new product called The Lock Jaw.

A bump in the night could be the first sign of a home invasion. Home invasions are occurring routinely on a nationwide basis and are some of the most terrifying and traumatic event that could ever occur to us. Go to ˜Google News sometime and type-in home invasion. I am confident that you will find stories posted to Google News within the past hour. Many of these home invasions make the national news. Did you know that according to a leading insurance company and other reputable sources, most home invasions occur via a door? Some of you may think that a home invasion is where the bad guy kicks in the door – and this is a technique used by some who may be brash. However, many bad guys prefer the cover of darkness and a stealthier invasion.

According to the U.S. Justice Department, 38% of violent crimes occur at home and over 50% result in physical injury.  Lock bumping is stealthy. The bumping technique, which takes a blank key and distorts it, and is then tapped into a lock or deadbolt to open it is all over the internet and air ways. If there was a product out there that was affordable to everyone would you want it for you and your family? If there was a product out there that was simple, innovative and effective, would you want to have it in your security and safety arsenal? Good questions deserve simple answers; Yes, to both. With how to videos on the internet on making bump keys and home invasions making constant news, both locally and nationally, the two will intercept.

Unfortunately, until now there has been no affordable solution. Lock Jawâ„¢ (www.lockjawsecurity.com or www.thelockjaw.com) provides both an effective and affordable solution. The product works with any single cylinder deadbolt  and let’s face it, most exterior doors in America have a deadbolt with a thumb latch. In fact, deadbolts that require a key on both sides are often against Life Safety and/or building codes. Deadbolts, without The Lock Jaw, are not bump proof. These manufacturers use the clever marketing and legal term resistant. You know the difference; it; the same as a wrist watch that is water proof vs. water resistant. Try swimming with a water resistant watch! The accolade this product has received reads like a Who”s Who of product inventions – hence the patent pending. They have been featured on HGTV, network news, national radio, Mr. Gadget’s “Top 10 for Homes”, Wise Bread (a leading frugal and gizmo website), crime prevention organizations, national locksmiths, and many, many others. Lock Jaw was also featured during the Home Security Show on QVC. Other shows and news casts are also planned. Recently Bob Stuber, Safety Expert for ABC News, CNN, AMW, etc, as well as a regular on Oprah has seen The Lock Jaw and is providing America with the unbiased and expert scoop on the benefits of The Lock Jaw How’s that for credibility?

Lock Jaw works by preventing the bolt of a deadbolt from being retracted, keeping the door locked. It does this by preventing the thumb latch from turning regardless of the position of the thumb latch (See caption). It can be installed in less than 5 minutes with 2 small screws that attach only to the door or there are many ways for temporary set up such as double-stick tape. Lock Jaw is easily engaged and/or disengaged. This product complies with laws effecting home security (e.g. two motions) and is one, if not the only, product that complies with the new and various State privacy law whereby a resident must have one lock that is only engaged from the inside. Hmmm, only engaging from the inside??? Now that brings up an interesting point. How do I engage Lock Jaw when I leave my home? The answer: first, engage it on all doors except the primary and lest vulnerable door; second, ask yourself how do you engage a flip lock or door chain once you leave your home you don’t.  This product has many unique and innovative features. You heard me mention that it only attaches only to the door. When was the last time you installed a security product that only attached to the door. Many folks do not want to carve out or damage expensive trim and molding around doors. With Lock Jaw not an issue. Fit Lock Jaw directly above the deadbolt  no templates, drills just take your Phillips head screw driver. Or, better yet, install it with double-stick tape! Now that’s simple folks! Another feature is that it keeps toddlers from leaving the house without supervision. Many of your clients may have swimming pools or leave in busy, congested cities where the city street is just a few steps away. What would you do if your child was to escape without your knowledge? It was this very, real-life scenario that prompted Lock Jaw being featured in Wise Bread (www.wisebread.com). The product does, however, allow for a quick escape for older children, folks that may be confined to a wheel chair or even if they have moderate arthritis. To me, however, here’s the best benefit most all other security devices only work once the door has already opened. Burglar alarm only alarm you once a window or door has been opened. Door chains and flip locks only work after the door has already opened then, in reality; they are only a quick hindrance and can easily be compromised with a light kick to the door. Wouldn’t it be better (i.e. safer) if the door never opened to begin with? You betcha! Oh, and what about the ever popular French door or double doors. How can door chains and flip locks work with them? They can’t. Again, Lock Jawâ„¢ does not need a connecting membrane (e.g. door trim or molding) to attach to. Do you ever travel? Do you feel as safe and secure in a hotel or motel room as you do at home? No worries, take Lock Jaw with you along with a piece of double-stick tape. The product weighs less than 6 ounces and fits in the palm of your hand. What about RV? Deadbolts on RV are typically very similar if not the same as the deadbolt on a stationary home.

Until recently, the only place to buy this product was on the company’s website, Amazon and a few places here and there. However, has their exposure continues, more and more places will undoubtedly want to carry The Lock Jaw.

Lock Jaw is made of an aluminum alloy similar to alloys used in aircraft manufacturing; of which Mr. Fulford, co-developer and managing partner, is an ex-aerospace guy. It is plated in titanium brass and flat nickel. Other finishes are being tested. Typical locking devices are made of a zinc alloy, but as Mr. Fulford explains, the material and mechanical properties that we needed are best suited for aluminum.  He went on to say, “We don’t make deadbolts, we make deadbolts better. During testing we’ve broken more than a few keys trying to unlock a deadbolt. Now that’s security at your finger tips.

As publisher of this website, I have been around and seen a lot of products. Rarely do you find a product like Lock Jaw. When we look around at security products and hardware in general, we must ask ourselves: what has really changed in the past 25 years? Nothing! Deadbolts, hinges, etc. are all typically the same. Finishes and plating’s may change, but the fundamental application and solution has not. We have needed a product like Lock Jaw for a long time. Mr. Fulford, being somewhat analytical said that he once tried to estimate the number of deadbolts locks in America. He said that if you assumed that each house had three (3) doors and each apartment had only one (1) door each having a deadbolt, that there are approximately 300 million deadbolts. He pointed out that “this number excluded college dorm rooms and RV’s, which may add another few million to the pile.  Regardless of the assumptions or the methods used to determine the number of deadbolt locks in use now, as well as in the future, the bottom-line is that they are poised to replace every door chain and flip lock in North America.

The Ghost Writer

Yesterday I wrote about a truly awful Kim Cattrall film, it honestly made me feel bad for her as I have loved a lot of Kim’s work in the past, I mean Split Second and Big Trouble in Little China?!? She gets a gold pass simply for the latter, forget about Star Trek 6 and Police Academy! So I was relieved to see Cattrall in something actually well made again when we saw The Ghost Writer.

I admit that when Tracey suggested we see The Ghost Writer I thought she said Rider and I couldn’t understand why she was so keen!

It was a little odd watching a Roman Polanski film as I have mixed feelings about him personally however as with many other art producers I’m able to separate the man and the movie.

The story is about a ghost writer who is hired to complete the memoirs of a former British Prime Minister who is recently accused of authorising the illegal seizure of suspected terrorists and handing them over for torture by the CIA.  He is brought in after the initial ghost writer dies under mysterious circumstances and begins to unravel a much larger story.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_AerBW0EcI

See the thing about The Ghost Writer is that it is a really good film.  I mean really good, it’s got a very watchable cast and is shot beautifully. The pacing is almost perfect and the storyline is very satisfying.  The ending however will have people divided, I personally really liked the ending but I can’t say more because I don’t want to spoil it.

I generally always enjoy the films that Ewan McGregor picks and I don’t blame him for being in the Star Wars prequels because honestly who wouldn’t have done them?!  Here though he brings to the main character his usual every man charm with a touch of larikan which is exactly what is needed.

Happy to recommend this, happy to forget that other Cattrall film.

Another best earning moment was happening last month in this blog. It’s been a tiring yet great month with lots of things to be tested and reviewed as well. Now that I’ve got my iPhone 4, new iPhone 4 accessories’ reviews are inevitable. Perhaps after seeing these reviews, you might be tempted to get an iPhone 4 or an iPad :)

Jailbreak your PS3 using an Android Phone!

With the PSJailbreak looking to get no nowhere fast with Sony being able to block it by legal means, is the ability to hack the PS3 lost forever? Apparently not, all you need is an Android Phone to jailbreak your PS3!

While it’s not exactly a cheap alternative to ones who don’t have an Android Phone, for us already on Google’s bandwagon, it’s an interesting development to say the least.  No more shelling out $150 for a package that may never arrive!  Of course, that Android Phone is quite useless for hacking a PS3 if you don’t already own the console :)

How Much Is Car Insurance In Your State?

It’s easy to feel ripped off when it comes to car insurance. Different rates in different states just doesn’t seem like a credible business model to most consumers, but each state has its own laws and its own insurance commission. Still, the variation is HUGE — from over $2,500 per year to a low of $900 per year. What isn’t easily seen in the table below is the variation that can occur between companies within the same state.

The fact is, each company has its own actuaries and statisticians and though state insurance commissions set maximums on what insurers can charge, markets are still allowed (for now) to determine how low the companies can go before they cry “Uncle!” It’s up to you and me to make certain we’re getting the lowest rate from the best insurance company we can find.

Where does your state rank?

Better Off Ted is Complete!

When ABC canceled* the insane-office-politics sitcom Better Off Ted in February, they decided not to show the last two episodes. I don’t know what they were waiting for, or why they didn’t just throw them on at 3am on a Sunday to get it over with, except that it would have let people watch it on DVR and Hulu. They eventually decided to show the two episodes in the timeslot for the seventh game of the NBA finals in June, since the finals never go to a seventh game…except, of course, this year they did.

I was beginning to think we’d have to wait for the DVDs just to be able to see the last two episodes…except there was no sign of a season 2 DVD release, either.

The wait is over: as of the first of the month, Better Off Ted Season 2 is available online at Netflix Instant, Amazon Video on Demand, and iTunes. The whole season, including those last two episodes!

We watched them both tonight. They were great: just as funny, quirky, absurd (in every sense of the word) and uncomfortable as ever.

I’m really going to miss this show. Really, I’ve been missing it since February, but there was always that thought that, somewhere in a network vault there were two more new episodes to see, if ABC would ever let them out.

For now, they’re streaming online. Here’s hoping for an eventual DVD or Blu-Ray release — some form of semi-permanent library. Because I don’t trust ABC to keep the show available long-term.

*Technically they didn’t officially cancel it until May, but production was shut down and they hadn’t shown an episode since February. It was pretty clear they weren’t going to bring it back.
